Island Brook Estate Vineyard and Chalets 2024 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc has been awarded a gold medal and received the MCC Label trophy for the Best White Blend in the 2024 Sanector Wine Show of Western Australia. 53 wines from across WA competed for this trophy.
The annual wine show culminated in the award presentation in Albany on Friday 11 October. As well as receiving gold the vineyard was also awarded six bronze medals for varietals in their 2023 and 2024 vintages.
The 2023 release of Island Brook Estate wines marks the first release under the vineyard’s name since 2011. The property came under new ownership in 2022, acquired by WA locals Jill and Paul O’Callaghan whose vision was to reinvigorate the property, from restoring the cellar door and renovating the forest chalets, to reinvesting in the heritage vineyard.
“The property was in good shape when we arrived but there is always room for improvement.” says Paul, “We have engaged a great team – James Harris our viticulturist and Simon Ding our winemaker are producing some very good wines. It’s great to see that being recognized at the states premium wine show”.
Island Brook Estate Vineyard is home to some of the oldest, dry-grown Semillon vines in the Margaret River wine region. Beyond the vines, the property is also home to the rare marsupial - the phascogale and cedar wood forest spa chalets.
“Island Brook Estate is a beautiful combination of bush tranquility and manicured vineyard in the heart of the Margaret River wine region.” says Paul, “As the current custodians, we look forward to having visitors and friends visit us, share the amenity of the property, and enjoy the wine that is grown here.”
The Island Brook Estate Cellar Door has recently reopened Fridays through Sundays, 12pm to 5pm.
